April 12, 1861, a mark to a bigger thing than anyone had thought about during this time. USA (Union States of America) against CSA (Confederate States of America), 620,000 people had died throughout this war of four years. November 19, 1863; two years from the beginning of the civil war a speech was spoken. The country of America, not the United States of America yet, was split in half because of issues of slavery and central power divided the United States. November 19, 1863; two years after the start of the war, a speech one to be remembered for generations, and generations after it was spoken. Even, after being ridiculed and said to be one of the most unimportant speech, became more important than the actual battle. The first country to officially abolish Slavery was Spain, as they also, in its colonies, though Cuba rejects ban and continues to deal in slaves. It was abolished in Spain (and colonies to Spain) was during the year 1811; fifty years before the Civil War. The thing about slavery is that the thing they were used for was significant of plantations. Plantations, a way to say, a big rich guy, who was probably handed the property from his father (I say, father, because women were only objects and had no way of owning any sort of land), who was given slaves also from his father, the cycle was an endless loop because there was always a need for labor. A big thing was that- plantation owners didn t want to either pay them or do the physical work themselves. The difference between a Plantation and a Farm is; a plantation was a huge farm that was worked by slave labor. Though even after the civil war they were worked by sharecroppers which were nearly a slave anyway. They got a small percentage of what they grew while the plantation owner got fat. A farm was a family run it by themselves and hi red help as needed but paid a fair wage. This sign of segregation, equal rights, and freedom comes from this speech. Collaboration and Team Dynamics Analysis of Learning free essay sample

Learning teams consist of a small number of students grouped together, and working together on assignments during the duration of the course. According to University of Phoenix, Inc. (2006-2013), â€Å"By relying on others and having others rely on you, you will grow your collaborative skills†. This team encourages successful performance results, but successful performance can be hindered if team members do not equally contribute and work together. A collaborative team environment is the key for the complete success of the team. A collaborative environment can be created if team members do the following; creating a team charter, discussions within the team, positive information, and equally take responsibility for portions of assignments. As a team, we shall address value of team collaboration as part of the Learning Team model. Address how team collaboration adds value to achieving success in the development of academic projects. Team collaboration adds value to achieving success for the entire group because each member is working together towards a common goal. Without having a common goal, the team cannot be successful. Once general goals are in place the team members can develop an educational strategy for assigned projects. Along with collaborating with one another, team members must trust each other to work together efficiently. Team members come from all sorts of backgrounds and have many different life experiences, which can create different perspectives when collaborating on educational projects. Team diversity is the beauty of learning teams; by generating various style of learning; ways of communicating, ideas and learned information over the years. A team member can be stronger in areas that his or her team members is not, and can help other team members strengthen their weaknesses. According to University of Phoenix, Inc. (2006-2013), â€Å"Our team approach learning means you will have a built-in support system as you complete your studies. In addition to contributing to your learning team, you will interact with others in your class—sharing ideas, debating issues and learning from their experience through interactive online forums†. (University of Phoenix, Inc. , 2006-2013). Key Communication skills In order to be successful in any training team, it is necessary to have good communication skills within the group so that the group can reach its potential and be successful. â€Å"True team learning is the ability of members to share and build on their personal experience so that their collective experience enables them to improve team and organizational performance as well as to discover, develop and implement completely new ways of doing business†(D Andrea-O Brien Buono, 1996). In being in a group, there will always be different opinions, but there needs to be a way that everyone’s voice can be heard and ideas can be shared among one another. An important communication skill would be listening. Effective communication will not be possible in any aspect without listening. â€Å"The ability to listen to others and create shared meaning is extremely important because it provides the environment for sharing data and experiences and for creating a common base of knowledge† (D Andrea-O Brien Buono,1996). It takes more than be able to throw ideas out. It is more beneficial to listen to our peers and get other ideas and opinions on different situations versus being the only one speaking, â€Å"As such, effective communication processes – in terms of the ability to hear as well as to create shared meanings provide this foundation† (D Andrea-O Brien Buono, 1996). We can learn so much from other people when given the opportunity. It is also more likely to have everyone on one accord and make for a positive experience within in the group. Learning teams are not always the easiest things to be a part of, especially if one accustom to working alone. However, the experience will be more pleasant when each member uses communication skills effectively with other members. Talk to each other and plan out what needs to be done and who will do what, so no one person is doing too more or too little. Also be able to touch on everybody’s strengths and weaknesses so that you will know what to incorporate in the group projects. Examine major pitfalls or risks that could affect the success of Learning Teams. There are many factors that can affect the success of a learning team. Life happens to everyone within a learning team and not always at the same time. This can affect the amount of time some people are able to dedicate to their work or when they are able to post their part of an assignment. Communication is a huge vital player in learning teams, and as it breaks down so does the team. The success of a learning team built on information as much as participation, and without it the assignments will suffer. Another pitfall that can affect the success of learning teams is when you have more than one dominate personality within the team. Having multiple dominate personalities within a team can create arguments, clashing of personalities, breakdown in communication, and even in extreme cases team members requesting to be moved to a different team. Besides breakdown in communication or the team itself, another issue that could affect learning teams is the amount of work to be made by each person. In come events, an individual within the team may not contribute as much as he or she instructed, in this case the remainder team members have to contribute more. This adds stress to the individuals within the team that could be avoided. There is already a lot of stress on everyone within the team to get their personal assignments made as well as their part for the team, and if they are picking up the slack for the other team members then it can affect their quality of work on both assignments. When there is stress inside of the team between members it can cause enough friction that nothing gets done, and everything falls apart leaving everyone in a panic on the final due date. Finding ways to avoid pitfalls, and risks that may affect the learning team, and coming together as a team. Learning Team Charters Team charters are the procedures, guidelines, and consequences outlined, so all team members are well aware of what expected of them at all times. The learning team charter is an essential tool and, to ensure the teams formalize protocols and contribute equally to the success of the team project. Leadership designed within the team charter. An example is the team joining together to create a team philosophy (Wolfgang Morhart, 2008). The team creates the idea or common goal, so the outcome benefits the team as a whole. The team charter also allows the team as a whole to take personal responsibility. Team members assigned sections according to their strengths while each team member given the freedom to maximize his or her performance. Each team member outlines their strength in the team charter as well as their flaws. Combining team strengths and weaknesses assist the team to assign the appropriate sections or projects when available. The team charter also sets ground rules to determine how to solve problems before they become a constant problem of complaining. The charter sets consequences if areas of the project not completed which in turn determines the responsibility of the problem and the solution of the problem. Organization requires their employees to work effectively as members of a team,† (University of Phoenix, 2004, para. 2) this statement is resonant with educational teams. The team charter prepares us as students for real world experiences while using the team atmosphere as a basis for student interaction. In conclusion, learning teams are a positive part of the learning process in higher education. Assignments split between team members lowers the chances of stress, and workloads evenly distributed. Communication plays a huge role in learning times and can make or break a team depending on how well each person communicates within the team. Collaborating and working together for assignments helps to ensure that all sides of a subject discussed before the final product and helps to ensure the success of the last paper. The use of a team charter helps in not just information, but it also lays down ground rules for the team to follow. If, there are issues within the team the team charter can help find a solution. As with anything in life there are risks, and pitfalls that affect learning teams. Working together to get past, and or avoid them is part of the learning process. Being able to work together to move past what life has to throw at each person strengthens the team, and everyone within it individually. Learning teams help students to learn better communication skills, how to work as a team regardless of disagreements and issues, gives the opportunity for everyone’s viewpoints and perspectives to be shared giving the opportunity to learn from one another, and make large assignments easier and less stressful. A significant benefit of learning teams, preparation of students by engaging and participating with others to become successful together.

Live Theatre Critique of Junie B. Jones Essay It wasnt fancy like most theatres. It reminded my of a high school auditorum. They had the stage set up like a class room for the scene they were doing first. The first part of the play was set up like an classroom, and the second part pf the play was set up like a bookstore. The pre-show music that was playing was soft chrismas music. Not much singing just mostly instumental. As I was expecting, there were more children then teenagers. Parents and grandparents were there, but as for ages that attended, it was mostly children. Before the show began, the producers asked everyone to turn off their cell phones and anything with a distracting light. The show was mostly dark so any bright lights would distract the play. The play ran smoothly nothung distratcing happened. The plot of the play was about a girl named Junie B. Jones who was stuck between buying gifts for others or herself. Her parents gave her enough money to go to the book store and buy gifts for her family. Once she went to the book store, she laid her eyes on something she wanted for herself. The toy was called a squeeze a burp. Meanwhile, in class the teacher decided for the students to draw names of others in the class to buy gifts for. With her luck, she drew Mays name. May is a girl in Junie B. class that does not get along with her. They always fight and get in trouble. Junie B. just had to have that toy for herself. She went home and asked her grandpa Miller for some money and he gave it to her. She now had enough money to buy gifts for her family and herself. She decided that she was going to give May some ashes because she was a mean girl and didnt deserve any gifts. She end up buying the squeeze a burp toy for herself. As the children were putting the gifts in each other stocking she stated to think to herself is what she doing is right. Junie B. decided to do right so she could be on Santas nice list and gave May the squeeze a burp toy. The girls ended up being friends at the end and they played with the toy that Junie B had bought. The characters in the play behaved exzactly like they should have for this play. They portrayed a typical child in school. Selfish and argumenative with each others at time. The main characters of the play were Junie B. Jones, played by Brooke Bryant and May who was played by Cori Anne Laemmel. I think the genre of the play was comedy. Many of the scenes acted out in the play had not only the children laughing, but also the adults has well. Throughout the play Junie B and May did not get along as much. Junie B was also being selfish towards others than herself. The play was trying to accomplish friendship between the two girls and also teach Junie B not to be selfish, but giving. Through out the play they played christmas music, and music that inspired the things that were going on during that scene. They also played special effects sounds for certain parts. The part where Junie B gets into trouble, they played a noise that you would expect to here when someone is getting in to trouble or is doing something they shouldnt be doing. They also had great use of the lighting effects. There were parts of the play were Junie B would talk to her self as she were talking in her head. They would put a spot light on her and black everything else out so that you know that it is ment only for the audience to here and not the other characters. The director Peter Vann did a wounderful job in directing the play. He made sure that it felt as if the characters were actually children instead of adults. They played it well putting their self in a childs place. Each character acted out their lines perfectly. If any mistakes were made I didnt notice. Their tone and body language went well with their emotins and expressions that they had to act out. Having a little knowledge about Junie B, I would have never expected for her to buy May a gift or for them to get a long in the play. Brooke Bryant did a great interpetation of Junie B. Her voiced matched her personality of a snooty, selfish girl that thinks she knows it all. I think that Brooke Bryant and Cori Laemmel held their chacter of the girls very well. There were parts of the play whene they had to do or say funny things and they did it without laughing and remained in character. Brooke Bryant broke the forth wall in a scene where she was in the spot light talking to her self. But I think that it was part of the play for her to do that. Maybe to get the audience involved or just to make contact with the children to make them laugh. I noticed that many of the children enjoyed the play. The costume designer Patricia Taber did a good job designing the costumes. Each costume fitted each of the characters personalty that was being portrayed. Their was a rich girl in the class named Lucille and her costume was a pretty dress that looked expensive. Since her charcter was a rich girl, her fancy dress showed that she came from money without her having to say anything about it. I would definatly recommed this play to a friend or a family memeber that has children or have read any of the Junie B Jones books. The play ended on the note that Junie B and May finally got along and Junie B felt proud of herself for doing what she did. After that scene I thought the play was over. Brooke Byant, the character of Junie B began to sing. I didnt expect to her such beautiful singing. All the charcters joined togther and began singing a christmas song. They said Merry christmas and bowed and then the play was over. My favorite part of the play was at the end when they start singing. I didnt expect for them to sing at all and especially not the way they did. The play was a huge successe and I would defintaly go see it again.

The fact is that we can’t imagine one day without the Internet, but children today use it for things which don’t have a good influence on them. For example , kids spend few hours every day playing computer games. They don’t learn anything good from it. Years ago children used to spend all of their free time to hang out with each other, but nowadays they spend all of it to chat online with their friends.That’s the worst thing with Internet. They spend their childhood with the ‘ peace of technology ‘ , not with real people. It would be the best if parents took care of their children and thought more what they do in their free time. They should restrict their time and in that way they could have more time for something that are important in their life. On the other side we n eed Internet for everything today. The bright side of the Internet is that we can get intouch with our cousins and friends form other countries by skype.Unsociable children Big problem of children nowadays is that they have problems with finding friends. It’s really hard for them to find someone who will understand and support them in every way. The Internet , that I’ve just written about has a big influence on their sociable life,so they’re often lonely and feel depressive all the time. They watch lots of movies that are not suitable for their age and they think it’s okay to do those things.Because they don’t have friends and feel depressive , they become aggressive and often don’t find their soulmates. Why Boarding School Should Be Abolished

ENGLISH PROJECT WORK GROUP 4: BOARDING SCHOOLS SHOULD BE ABOLISHED (AGAINST THE MOTION) Mr. Chairman, Panel of Judges, Invited Guests, Accurate Time Keeper. Co Debators, Ladies and Gentlemen, I would like to speak against the motion before the house that’ Boarding schools should be abolished. ’ Boarding schools, for some years now, have been given bad names because of fictitious stories and ideas. I would like to prove these untrue. My opponent tried in vain to give points on why boarding schools should be abolished. They expressed that boarding students have less free time. They also mentioned that extracurricular activities and athletic events fill up the student's hours. Not to forget, these same activities help in the development of mental and physical ability which helps a lot in academics as a whole. Day students do not really have such opportunities. Also, it is incorrect that boarding students are stressed and unhappy . This statement is very delusional. In 2007, a survey was taken nationwide on this topic on students who had been to both day and boarding learning institutions and 7 out of 10 said they were much happier on the whole in boarding school. With these points successfully refuted, I would also like to raise a few points on my own. Mr. Chairman, it is quite obvious that the level of discipline in boarding schools is much higher than that of day ones. This is because students are under the watchful eyes of teachers and other school workers. Their days are also planned out completely filled with tasks and chores which prepares them for the future. Being respected and accepted in society as an adult depends on the training you receive as a child. Such training can be acquired from boarding schools. Students are put in an environment where they learn to socialize and interact with their peers and school faculty. This is less easy in day schools. Mr. Chairman, academic success is much more prevalent in boarding schools. For over 20 years now, they have come out with an 89. % rate on the average which is much higher than the 74% percent results from day schools. This is as a result of better learning resources, availability of teachers at any time, attention to students and regular supervised study periods. Teenage students learn independence, responsibility, respectfulness, team work, amongst many other values which are very essential in the real world as an adult. For parents who lack time to be at home and take of their w ards due to busy schedules, boarding schools come to a huge sigh of relief to them. Not only are their children well taken care of in a safe environment, they also learn things they would have probably never learnt from them. It is therefore no surprise that most of Ghana creme de la creme in all sectors went to boarding schools. Mr. Chairman, to name a few, His Excellency John Atta Mills, former president John Kuffuor and former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan and even their wards all attended boarding schools. Mr. Chairman, with these irrefutable points that have been advanced, there is no alternative but to vote against the motion that’ Boarding schools should be abolished. ’

Before she left, her father told her, I am your father, and Ill never abandon you (Cisneros 43), A quote that she will remember later down the line. They move to a town called Seguin, in Texas, the city of nasty gossips, dust, and despair, where Cleofilas has to gradually learn that the community life she cherished before moving north no longer exists. She believes that the town foundation is built so that wives have to depend on husbands for a ride or stay home. There is nothing for a woman to walk to no supportive church, no leafy town square, and no friendly shops. While the time passes, she begins realizing that this is not what she was expecti ng, and Juan Pedro is not the man who she envisioned. Juan Pedro, in reality, is a sexist man who beats his wife eventually she realizes that she needs to escape this life that Juan Pedro has made for her, and go back to Mexico to her family. Thanks to the help from a firm independent woman name Felice. She has a chance to go back to her father along with her children, and on the journey, knowing that there are strong women like Felipe who dont follow the social norms like on the telenovelas. She admires Felipe for being independent and wonders if she could be like that too. The author purposes for writing this story is to prompt the readers ideas of romantic love, woman role in a masculine culture, and expectation Vs. Reality. As a young woman, Cleofilas would dream about finding her prince charming, finding true love Passion in its purest crystalline essence (Cisneros 44). A situation like this is common when it comes to a young teenager because of movies, and television it gives the viewer expectations about how love is. According to cultivation theory, viewers who are repeatedly exposed to romantic content in media should, over time, adopt beliefs about the real world that are similar to the themes featured in the storylines (Gerbner, Gross, Morgan, Signorielli, Shanahan, 2002). As for Cleofilas, when she met Juan Pedro, it was love at first sight, just like in the movies. A good comparison to her situation is the frozen movie when the main character, Anna, meets Han. They immediately take a liking to each other. When trouble falls upon the kingdom, Anna decides to leave Han in charge, A man that she only knew for a short time, while she goes to save her sister. Little does she know that Han was a hoax , and she gave him the perfect opportunity to take over the kingdom. In our story, Cleofilas meets Juan Pedro only for a short period before he asks her to marry him. Cleofilas knowing that this is rushed still agree to marry him because he doesnt know when shell get another opportunity again, and she wants that telenovelas life. As time goes on, she began to question the reality of the relationship. There was not enough reason yet to give up on the relationship she still believes the trope I believe if another person and I love each other, we can overcome any differences and problems that may arise (V. Hefner B. J. Wilson 164). This trope is a huge problem when it comes to television; it gave the idea no matter how bad the relationship gets love conquers all, and Cleofilas is holding on to that expectation. Reality is the world or the state of things as they exist, as opposed to an idealistic or notion idea of them. A moment in the story when reality set in is when the author recalls and he slapped her, and then again, and again; until the lip split and bled an orchid of blood, she didnt fight back, she didnt break into tears, she didnt run away as she imagined she might when she saw such things in the telenovelas (Cisneros 47). At this moment, Cleofilas mind begins to question the idealistic relationship and the Telenovelas. She realized it was not as simple as just picking up your belonging, and leaving there a physical, and emotional connection that cannot be severed so easily. She starts asking herself if this is the man she wants to be with the rest of her life. Every day from that point on Cleofilas questions why she loves him saying things like he isnt a good man, he doesnt even help with the baby, and hes nothing like the men on the telenovelas (Cisneros 49). The expectations th at she had been through, and now, reality has set in. She starts seeing the true nature of this town, how it made for women to rely on men. They have no place to go no car to drive all they can do is cater to their husbands. As the time when on she had had enough, and decided to do something about her reality. After that, a named Graciela asked for a favor to her friend Felice to get Cleofilas to the bus station. While on their way, Cleofilas realized that Felice was not the norm of a woman like she saw on the telenovelas. Felice was a confident woman who had her pick up a truck and worked for everything. Cleofilas admired seeing the reality of a strong woman in this world right in front of her face. Woman Hollering Creek is about a woman realizing that the world reality and television expectations are far part. The television expectation puts a false ideal into a young woman mind about what a relationship should be, that the prince may not be prince charming. Let yourself daydream for a few minutes about what your dream life will be like after graduation. (Cincotta, 2006) Types of Democracy: The five major types of democracy are as follows: Direct Democracy: This form of democracy does not advocate the selection of rulers by the general public or the ruled instead it denies the concept that there is any difference between the ruler and the ruled. In such a form all the adult citizens get together to shape the laws and policies for the nation. In other words, we can say that the government and the general public become one. (Democracy,) Deliberative Democracy: It is the form of democracy in which the general public, not just the political personalities, deeply get engaged in the process of public decision making. The citizens also take part in the problem solving processes. The citizens, who are the representatives of a wide variety of stakeholders, who are generally trained by professional experts come together to discuss various facts and concepts from the diversified point of views. They talk to each other and consider various options that are presented to them. They also critically analyze the tension that underlies most of the decisions related to public issues. In the end, the citizens as well as the politicians reach a conclusion or a decision that is being made by both public and political opinion. Most of the countries, nowadays, are trying to employ the deliberative form of democracy. According to Joseph Schumpeter, representative democracy gives the general public the right to accept or refuse the person who would rule them. (Democracy,) Liberal Democracy Liberal democracy can also be defined as limited government. It limits the authority of the government in order to secure the liberty and the freedom of the public. It also seeks to defend the rights of the minority and to protect the minority from the major danger that is being by democracy, the tyranny and oppression of the majority. This form of government can be defined as the rule of the law rather than the men. In this form of government the rulers are subjected to follow the constitutions and laws. These constitutions consist of rules regarding individual rights. If a citizen feels that he is being exploited by the government then he can raise a dispute in the judicial institutions. (Democracy,) Illiberal or Electoral Democracy In this type of democracy, the leaders or rulers pay no or very little attention to the rights of the individual citizens. The process of democracy is limited to the elections. And in some cases the elections are also disrupted by the influence of the rulers and they may turn the election process in favor of their party. (Democracy,) Difference between Democracy and Liberal Democracy Democracy or presidential form of government can be defined as a form of government where strong decisions are being made immediately in a short period of time and are implemented as well. It is a form of government where the voice of people is valued more than the freedom of the government. According to Schmitt, liberal democracy can be identified with plurality, compromise and indecision. In such a system the freedom of individuals is valued a lot. The decision making process in this form is very lengthy and weak. The decisions made in this form of government, are temporary and do not provide a permanent solution for any problem. Nowadays, in the parliamentary or a liberal form of government the real decisions are being made by the executive committee members behind the closed doors and the parliament is being treated as a debate house. This indicates that the present form of liberal democracy is moving away from its basic objective, public decision making. In a democracy, unlike l iberal democracy where public decision making is practiced, there is a set of rules and regulations which is being followed to make all the important decisions. According to Schmitts theoretical approach, a democracy may exist in a real world but it is nearly impossible for a liberal democracy to exist and sustain in the real world. (Stewart, 2002) Institutional Guarantees Provided by Liberal Democracy For the liberal democracy to exist, it must fulfill the following institutional guarantees; Freedom to Form and Join Organizations All the individuals have complete freedom to join the organization (political) of their choice or they may form their own political organization. For example, the United States of America allows its citizens to freely form and join political organizations. There are about 29 minor and 5 major political parties in the United States of America. Freedom of Expression: All the citizens of a liberal democracy have a right to express their views freely. For example, public demonstrations in different democratic states clearly represent the fact that the general public in democratic states has a complete right to express their views. Inclusive Suffrage: This condition provides all individuals the right to cast the vote and to elect the government. The liberal democracy, for example, provides men and women an equal right to cast the vote whereas; in the previous times women were being neglected in the case of casting votes. The Right to Run for an Office This means that the individual citizens as well as the political candidates have a right to run for a political office in a liberal democracy. For example, in different states many private candidates run for different offices, such as Ross Perrot, who ran for US presidential elections in 1992. Right of Political Leaders to Compete for Vote and Support A liberal democracy allows all the political candidates to compete with each other in legal ways to get their voted and support. For example, different political leaders arrange mass political campaigns in order to convince the people to vote for them. Availability of Alternative Information It is the right of the people to have complete information about all the alternative options available for them. The liberal governments, for example, provide all possible information and complete profiles (including their asset count, net income) of the potential candidates to the general public. Free and Fair Elections It is the responsibility of the government in a liberal democracy to conduct free and fair elections so that the deserving candidate may win and the people may get what they want. For instance, the government posts military officials at various polling stations so that the elections may be conducted peacefully. In addition to that, various policies have been designed by a number of governments in order to avoid vote tracking. Conclusion The increase in transition, from an authoritarian form of government, to democracy has led towards an increase in the number of corrupt governments and system failures. In a survey conducted in third world countries, it was reported that the majority of the people (about 74 percent) said that democracy is the best form of government but they (about 55 percent) also indicated that they would not mind having an authoritarian leader if that would lead towards better economic conditions. Democracy has its pros and cons, but if managed properly, this form of government can bring the best out of a nation and its people. (Howard, 2011)
